Biggest Problem Living in Draper Utah
Melissa Ballman:
What is the biggest problem living in Draper, Utah? Well, today I’m going to tell you about it as a Draper resident myself.

Hi, this is Melissa Ballman, and I am a real estate agent here in the Greater Salt Lake City Metro area. So what that means, if you’re looking at making a move to Utah, I’d love to connect with you and see how I can help you. Shoot me a message, drop a comment below, email. Whatever you got to do, get in touch with me. But first, today, I want to talk to you about the number one problem about living in Draper.

I’ve been a Draper resident since 2002 and there are so many wonderful things about living in Draper. You have tons of hiking and biking. You’re right up in the mountains, so you are close to Corner Canyon trails, the suspension bridge, lots of retail stores, so there’s a lot of benefits. But there’s one big problem that Draper has and that is the infrastructure is just not there, so traffic is horrendous at certain parts of day.

In Draper, there’s a lot, a lot of apartments that have been built or are currently getting built. Large companies and office spaces are being built or just recently completed, and there’s just not enough infrastructure on the roads to support this level of growth in the city. It’s not unusual to drive down 12300 South in Draper, one of the main roads, and it can take you 10 minutes to go a half to three quarters of a mile at peak times of day. So lunchtime on 12300 is horrendous because everybody’s trying to go get food at all the different restaurants that are along 12300.

One thing that people often don’t realize is that we have a very large private school campus, Skaggs Catholic Center, which is pre-K through 12th grade in Draper. If you’ve ever tried to go from the Draper post office to 12300 when the school is getting out, you know it can take you a good five minutes just to get from the post office to 12300, which is one block. It’s horrific and now they’re talking about building another commercial space and school in that open field across the street from the post office. So can you imagine what the traffic’s going to do to that little tiny two-lane road going in and out, which is 300 East and just North. It’s between 12300 and about a 118th South, that there’s only one lane going each direction.

It’s very stressed out, not to mention you have Corner Canyon High School. Now it’s not close to the Skaggs Catholic Center, but again, Corner Canyon only has these little one-lane each direction roads. So when you have 3,000 students getting out or going to school at Corner Canyon, you’re competing with that traffic. Now you’re adding in apartments, so more population. You’re adding an office buildings, so more people coming and going at those critical times of day for work.
